This quick guide will help you to create & manage your first test cases.

Create testcase with Test Editor

Create a Test Draft

  • Access your menu on the top left of the app

  • Choose Test Editor

  • Click on Create New Script

  • Choose Test Repository as the parent folder & create a new folder for your feature

  • Choose your newly created folder & click Create

FlashTest will create a Test Draft. All the test cases you draft will be created in Login feature folder in Test Repository.

Prepare your Test Draft

Test Editor modes

In our editor, we have 2 modes:

  • View mode: you can click to choose any row, navigate around rows with arrow keys…

  • Edit mode: you need to enter this mode in order to prepare your test case, test step & test data.

To edit, simply choose a row then press Enter. The row will be in edit mode.

Row levels & Editing

Draft your first test draft by clicking onto first row (No 1) then press Enter.

Type in an example like below:

In Test Editor, we have 3 levels in above image:

  • Level 1: Test (TestCase issue type), highlighted in Blue

  • Level 2:

    • Step (Test step - data in TestCase), highlighted in Green

    • Other data for TestCase: TestPrecondition, TestEnvironment, linked issues… To use this, type / at level 2 to view the menu.

  • Level 3:

    • Step Data (Test Step Data - data of a step), not highlighted

    • Other Step Data: Expected Result, Observed Result… To use this, type / at level 3 to view the menu.

To quickly switch levels, press Tab to indent and Shift + Tab to outdent the level.

Hotkeys

With FlashTest, you can prepare your testcase fast with hotkeys. To view all hotkeys, click “?” button at the bottom right.

Publishing

Publishing your draft

Once you’re happy with your preparation, click “Publish” at the top right.

FlashTest will then show a list of issues it will modify (create, edit or delete):

Click “Publish” to confirm.

Go back to Test Repository and open your previously selected folder Login feature, you will see newly created TestCase:
