Your board is large

Your board has a complicated association between goals and epics
The feature does not support mapping goals with the Epic issue type
[Cloud] How to use this feature?
1. Setting up a new issue type and a new issue link (optional)
To link a Goal with a specific issue type and define its relationship with a Step, you can use existing Jira issue types and link types or create new ones as needed. For step-by-step instructions, refer to Atlassian’s official documentation:

Configure the work type hierarchy (for Parent field relationship)
2. Turn on the Goal Mapping feature

Go to Admin Settings → Goals settings

Turn on Map Jira Issue Type with Goals option

Choose the relationship between Goals and Epics — either Parent field or Issue link:
Parent field
Select the issue type from the dropdown menu
Issue link

Issue type: Select issue type mapping with goals

Link type: Select issue link type mapping with goals

Click Save to save the setting.

Click Migrate to migrate data:

Select existing issues and map them with the goal, or
-
Create a new issue and map it to the goal.

[Data Center] How to use this feature?
Due to a Data Center limitation, mapping goals with issue types that have a higher hierarchy level than Epic is not supported.

Issue type: Select the issue type to map with goals.

Link type: Select the issue link type to map with goals.

Click Save to save the setting.

Click Migrate to migrate data:

Select existing issues and map them with the goal, or

Create a new issue and map it with the goal.

Warning: Once saved, all existing relationships between goals and epics may be lost. Make sure you understand the impact before proceeding. We do not recommend this action if your board is currently large.
