Asset Importer for AssetIT

What is AssetIT Asset Importer?

AssetIT Asset Importer enables organizations to import asset data from external systems into AssetIT. It is designed to reduce manual data entry and help ensure that asset records in AssetIT are created using reliable, system-sourced information.

Currently, AssetIT Asset Importer supports importing device data from Jamf and Microsoft Intune into AssetIT. Support for additional data sources may be added in future releases.

Starting in March 2026, AssetIT will no longer support the Data Migration feature inside the AssetIT app. The Data Migration will have a new home in AssetIT Asset Importer – a dedicated app designed to handle data import, migration, and integrations with external systems.

Only the Jira app administrator can install and use AssetIT Asset Importer.

Data imported from Microsoft Intune

When a device is enrolled in Microsoft Intune, device information is collected during enrollment and through ongoing device management.

Asset Importer can retrieve and import most of the device information available in Intune, including:

  • Device metadata (model, manufacturer, serial number)

  • Operating system and operating system version

  • Device ownership information

  • Assigned user, when available

  • Network-related information

  • Device enrollment and management status

This information is used to create new asset records or update existing assets in AssetIT.

Data imported from Jamf

When a device is enrolled in Jamf Pro, relevant device details are gathered both during the initial enrollment and through continuous management.

AssetIT Asset Importer can retrieve and import key information from Jamf, such as:

  • Device metadata (e.g., model, serial number, asset tag)

  • Version, IP address, processor type.

  • Ownership information, enrollment history & enrollment status.

How Asset Importer supports AssetIT

Migrating Existing Device Inventory

Organizations that already manage devices in Microsoft Intune or Jamf can use Asset Importer to import their existing device inventory into AssetIT instead of creating asset records manually.

This supports faster setup of AssetIT and reduces manual effort during initial migration.

Ongoing Asset Lifecycle Management

External MDM systems like Jamf or Microsoft Intune focus on device management and security, while AssetIT manages asset ownership, lifecycle, and governance.

By importing device data from Jamf or Intune, AssetIT can build on accurate device information while remaining the system of record for asset lifecycle management.

To use AssetIT Asset Importer, you must have AssetIT installed in your Jira instance.
