Goal Mapping

What is goal mapping?

Goal Mapping is a feature in ProductGo that extends Jira’s standard three-level issue hierarchy (Epic → Story/Bug/Task → Subtask) to support a fourth level: Goal → Epic → Story/Bug/Task → Subtask

Previously, Goals in the story map were stored only within the app’s database, making them unsearchable and unlinked in Jira. With Goal Mapping, you can now map Goals to a Jira issue type and use a specific link type to define the relationship between Goals and Epics

You can plan and track projects with four levels of issues, and any changes in the relationship between Goals and Epics are reflected via issue links in Jira. You can view these relationships directly in the issue dialog/page

How Goal Mapping Works

  • Map each Goal to a Jira issue type for better integration.

  • Use a link type to define the connection between Goals and Epics.

  • Search and manage Goals from Jira, just like any other issue.

  • Any updates to the relationship between Goals and Epics are visible via issue links in Jira.

How to enable it?

Take a look at this instruction to enable the Goal Mapping feature for your projects:

Working with Goals

Create a Goal by clicking the + button or Add new goal card in the Goals section of your Story Map.

Adding these details to create a new goal:

  1. Goal name

  2. Import existed issue

  3. Choose the Project for the Goal

  4. Goal color

  5. Create goal

  6. Delete goal

You can edit the name, status, or color directly on the Goal card.

After creation, each goal will have its issue key and status. Click on the issue key to view and edit goal details.

Add or remove Epics and adjust link types within the Goal details, or drag and drop Epics directly on the Story Map.
